What did you do today?

I started out in Place A, who despite me calling Friday, getting directions & confirming that I should be there today, didn’t know I was coming.

They sent me to Place B, temporarily, who definitely didn’t know I was coming, while I awaited the *chance* to do house visits for Medicaid patients receiving home health care.

In route to Place B, I was stopped in the midst of a drug bust.  Bullet-proof vest clad cops & irate druggies EVERYWHERE.  They stopped every frackin car, made us pop our trunks and escorted the drug dog around the car.

Place B was interesting, mainly because a neighbor from 25 years ago was running the place.  It was really nice to catch up with her.

Then off, to place c, etc…

I swear at the end of that, I felt like I needed to be soaked in Lysol & Clorox FOR A WEEK.

Section 8 housing.  Rent= $65/month.

One place had a plasma television the size of my china cabinet.  I ain’t bullshitting you on that one.

Supposed to go to 8 places, 4 people weren’t home or wouldn’t come to the door.  Finished at 1300, when I wasn’t supposed to finish until closer to 1500, where I could go get my patient info.

So…I went to get some lunch when I was dismissed.  Enjoyed my fast food lunch, pulled out of the parking lot, heard some strange popping noises behind me, but Mama always said never look back, something might be gaining on you…

Got to the hospital to get patient information for tomorrow and they start asking, DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE SHOOTING?

Um, no.  What shooting.

Right back up the road at *$^#’$.  It JUST happened like 10 minutes ago.

That is where I just ate and was leaving 10 minutes ago.

Le sigh.

Now, I have to write a one page paper on my day.  I’m afraid she’s going to chuck it, thinking it’s fiction.

3 more clinical days.  4 more class days.

See if you can spend the rest of the week with me. I promise you’ll get good community nursing experience plus I might be able to catch my breath. 😉
