At a loss for words

That’s a new one, huh?

Morgan posted something on facebook about Westboro Church.  They claim to be Baptists.  Well, *I’m* Baptist and they sure as heck don’t represent anything I believe, even remotely.

There are a lot of thoughts about these folks running through my mind, but most of them don’t fall under the heading “religious”.

You can think what you want about sin & sinners, the vile & the evil, the wrongs and the rights.  However, my thoughts on all of it- gay, straight, left, right, up, down, whatever- are summed up in one verse.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, so that he who believeth in Him shall not perish, but shall have everlasting life.  John 3:16

Yep, this Baptist’s God is a loving God.  If you’re not doing what He wants you to do, you’re not punished, you’re just not rewarded necessarily.  He loves you anyway.

As for Westboro [supposed] Baptists, they’re nuts.  Plain & simple nuts, with a large helping of asshatism.

(I also notice on their calendar, there aren’t many scheduled rallies or whatever they call them for the deep South in relation to California & the North.  Now is that because they foolishly think that we believe as they do or are they afraid of the Bible-clutching, gun loving segment of the population?)

People like me, hovering on the atheist end of the spectrum, look at people like those and go, “See? THAT’S another reason I don’t go to church.”

I’m intelligent enough to realize that what Westboro is selling isn’t Christianity, of course.

    But it’s definitely off-putting.

Their conduct at the funerals of the fallen soldiers is enough to make me wish them all… gone. Forever.

I’m a Baptist too, and they DON’T represent me OR my faith… And yeah, they know better than to bring that crap down South…

As a back sliding Jew, who at one time was married to a Baptist and having served with many Baptists……….with you. The bunch from Topeka are not Baptists. I have no idea what they are. Having lived in Kansas for eleven and a half years, we got a fairly steady diet of that bunch of loons. Being polite here. And also being in a family who has a long tradition of Service in The Armed Forces of The United States, when it comes to “protesting” at the funerals of those who have fallen in the Service of The Republic is repugnant. Rope, Tree, Assembly Required. Or as the Montana Vigilantes used to use, 3-7-77.

They are well known as being nothing more than a scam. They make their living suing folks. They WANT people to oppose them. That’s how they survive and get their income.

Their church? Isn’t. It’s a barbed-wire enclosed compound with private security guards.
