and so did my patient, therefore things were good.

I didn’t get bit or cussed.  She only cried for about an hour out of the 10 and part of that was when I was leaving.  She kept grabbing me & seemed to not want me to go.

I honestly think it was the most individual attention she’d gotten in eons.

But still, although I am good at it (No, not being conceited.  I just know I am good working with old folks.), I cannot fathom doing it longterm.  Every hurting old person breaks my heart and ends up keeping a part of me…

there wouldn’t be anything left after a few weeks.

Anyway, I survived, the patient survived, I did what I was supposed to, I pissed a couple of people off…

all-in-all, it was a damned good day in my opinion.

(But nobody is going to have to tell me it’s time to go to bed in a bit, that is for sure!)

Hopefully, I can make her smile at least once tomorrow, we’ll see.

My uniform is pressed, my bag is packed, my paperwork is done and I finally have a watch with a second-hand big enough to see- without needing my arm to be a bit longer.  I’m ready.

ACK!  I forgot to pack my lunch.  Must take care of that now and then off to bathe & to bed.  Nothing like starting the day at 4:00 a.m.

You have FAILED in every “government service” you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??

We were allowed to go today to get our patient assignments for Monday.  Fairly simple procedure-  go in, find the list with our name & our patient’s name, pull their chart, get their info (diagnoses, recent lab results, ADL info, meds, etc…), transfer that info to our paperwork to bring home and map out the how’s, why’s and wherefores.

I pull up and one girl is standing outside the building.  She’d walked in and nobody had spoken to her, so she’d turned around and walked out!

Alas!  Gasp!  Oh, the horror!  The huge manatee!

Get a grip.

If you don’t know what you’re doing, hold your head high, march in saying who you are, what you want & that you need help achieving your mission.  Sheesh.

There were a few other students that came in while I was there.  “Where do I find ____?”, “I can’t read this!”, “I can’t find ______!”, “What do I do with ______?”, “I can’t figure this out!”.

Were they expecting the info to jump out of the charts onto their paper?

As my fifth grade teacher always said, “Can’t never could.”.

Ugh.  I spent an hour helping them and finally said screw it and left to let them find their own information.  One was having a nervous breakdown because she couldn’t find a PTT value.  I explained repeatedly to her that her patient wouldn’t have been checked for that if he wasn’t on blood thinners, which he wasn’t.  She couldn’t seem to get that the two things were connected and nothing pisses me off more than for someone to ask for my help, then basically tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about.  She’s too fracking uptight anyway.  She’s the one who wants to be there by 6:00 a.m. since we have to be there at 6:45.

I sincerely hope they’ve settled down by Monday or it’s going to be an Excedrine sort of day.

and I’m soooo thankful it’s basically over.

Midterms, regular exams and that blasted conference have me brain-fried tonight.

Two 86’s and a 96, so I’m not complaining.  One day, I will actually crack open a book and study and screw with all their minds.

I’m laid back and cool this quarter though.  Shit on obsessing.  Doesn’t do anybody, especially me, any good.  It is what it is and that’s it.

Anyway, tomorrow is for getting new tires on the van & doing a little Christmas shopping.  Saturday is a local Fall Festival, some play practice and driving 65 miles to get my patient assignment for clinical Monday morning.  Sunday is for allowing the brain and body to relax…yeah, right.

Got my Swine Flu vaccine today.  Not because I felt I needed it or even wanted it, but because the school said, “Have it by December 1st or else!”.

I wanted to give it to myself, but the nurse wouldn’t let me.  At least thanks to the “student” status, I was able to get it free. 

I’ll be sure to let y’all know if I feel the urge to oink anytime soon.

buying Christmas presents today.

Between school & the play, there’s no way in Hell I can wait until “later” to start shopping.

I’m about to start decorating this evening as well.   I only have *seven* days off between now and Thanksgiving, when all decorating must be completed and I’ve got play practice 4 of those days.

Christmas is coming early at Snigs’.

Let it be known, I am not a fan of the conference- of any kind.

Generally, most I’ve ever been to were a complete waste of my time.

The brilliant Dean of Nursing decided that today (technically our first day of clinicals!) would be better spent if we paid $25.00 each and drove 2 hours west to the state LPN Conference.

By God, I feel like I had to pay to be part of someone’s fracking infomercial.

My day at a glance-

1.  Some of my classmates didn’t think they could follow the road we live on to Macon.  Seriously, this highway goes straight to Macon.  You never turn off of it.  And you cannot follow that direction?  Oh yeah, I told them Deb & I were leaving at 6:00.  They show up at 5:30.  I was ready, but I don’t entertain at that time of the morning…they sat in the yard and got more & more uptight about being late.

2.  We arrived at the destination at 8:00.  I TOLD them it would only be a 2 hour drive.

3.  The instructor (not my personal instructor) who harped on us how important it was that we be on time….was late.

4.  We couldn’t enter the place until she got there and got the “ticket thing” worked out.  ??

5.  Just like a black person would notice an all-white run show, I noticed this was an all-black run show.  And not many of them had a very tight grasp on the English language.  Attention nice lady with the pink hair- IMPORTANCE & IMPOTENCE are two different words with two totally different meanings.  Oh, and the S on the end of Athens is NOT silent.

6.  Thanks Governor Sonny Perdue for the LPN Week Proclamation.  I really didn’t have to hear it read by the lady with the pink hair though.  Honest, I didn’t.

7.  What was supposed to start at 8:45 actually started at 9:30.

8.  I’m not sure why everyone on the “board” was introduced.  None of them were there.  Seriously.  Budget restraints did not allow any board member to travel to any board meeting.

Say huh?

9.  The “informative” *coughspewsputterhackcough* meeting on how to pass the NCLEX turned out to be nothing more than the woman hawking her program…which I could purchase for….$250.00.

10.  The meeting was supposed to last until 12:30, then lunch (that we paid for) was to be served at 1:00.  Well, the meeting was over at 11:00 and lunch was bumped to 2:00.

My ass was back home by 2:00.

I swear, I pray they ask my opinion of the whole shooting match come tomorrow.

Damnit.

Not 5:30, 5:32 or even 5:42.

5:45.

If you’re the type who wants to “get there early”, then don’t involve me in your plans.

I’m not going to be late, but I’m definitely not going to get up an hour earlier where I can be ready whenever you decide you’re ready.

And don’t sit in my fucking driveway, honking the horn like you’re insane.

Sigh.

I have to remind folks I own guns wayyyy too often.

Mine’s sorta mixed up.  We were invited to a party, but it turns out yesterday was the party, not this evening.

I just looked at the emails though-

“Hey Cindy, what are y’all doing for Halloween?”
“Nothing really, why?”.
“My kids are having a party and want y’all and the kids to come.”.
“Oh neat, yeah, we’d love to.  What time?”.

Etc…

I took it as the party was on Halloween….since we don’t tend to “celebrate” Halloween Hanukkah style.

I guess I’m guilty of assuming and yeah, I know what assuming does.

Anyway, the kids came up with the alternate plan, now that the party is over and done with- we’ll go eat as a family, the kids in their costumes, then David will take responsibility for walking Molly door-to-door and she will trick-or-treat.

I can live with that.
