I’m Backkkk
With a kick-ass headache and I can’t hardly walk, but back none the less.
I don’t know why the head is hurting, other than to prove once again (if to nobody but me) that I do infact have a brain. The hardly being able to walk is apparently from a combination of things. Walking, walking and a little more walking. Not a bad thing at all- unless you have a very annoying, previously broken ankle that likes to let the fact that it’s not “right” still be known. Which apparently causes me to walk a bit odd. Which probably throws something out of alignment and makes hips and the back hurt. Not to mention, the hotel’s bed was the softest thing I’ve ever tried to sleep on. Amazing how something that feels so damned wonderful when you first lay down on it can make you be begging for Advil and salvation the next morning.
A couple of nights on the board I call a bed here at home and I’ll be as good as new.
As to vacation, a good time was had by all. We did nothing earth shatteringly fun or exciting, but even the kids seemed to have enjoyed it. They spent more time talking and smiling than keeping their heads stuck in some sort of electronic gizmo anyway.
The husband cheated on his diet some, but got plenty of exercise to make up for it. We found good whole wheat flour at the granary, a fairly decent assortment of sugar free jellies, and the fudge shop even had sugar free fudge and candies. I’m amazed at the difference in the taste of sugar-free foods from now and the taste of them from 20 years ago. Some things really don’t taste any different.
Our animals were glad to see us. Honestly, I figured Wiggles would hate me. She gave me the “My god has forsaken me” look when we were dropping her off at the boarding place Wednesday. I think I would have felt better leaving one of the kids than her. Molly had to dig Lucy out of her cage, but the kittens didn’t seem to mind. I opened the door yesterday evening though and Wiggles was in a kennel right at the front. She just tilted her head and looked at me. No excitement, no nothing. James says she was trying to make out whether it was really me or her imagination. Once I spoke, she knew it was me and I thought I’d be licked to pieces when I took her out of the cage.
Anyway, I’m going back to nurse the head awhile. Enjoy some pictures-

The main drag through Helen, a “Bavarian Village”-

Every building in the town has to be built basically like these. Because of that, McDonald’s and Waffle House will not locate there. Wendy’s, KFC, banks, service stations and hotels are all the same decor type.
City Hall-

Picnic by the river-

(The camera lady needed a cigarette!)
The bear park houses bears that have been given pink slips by circuses, bears that have been “raised” by idiots who thought they’d be cute and cuddly pets then thought again, etc… It’s basically “bear rescue”. There are grizzly, black, brown, cinnamon, and Russian black bears-

They had snakes at the Bear Park too…geeez, looks like feeding time was recent-

The family that drinks together….looks funny. ![]()

More to come later!

Thanks y’all. We did have lots of fun. I tell ya though, I was ready to come home. Apparently, I’ve gotten “old”. I like being at home, sleeping in my own bed, eating my own food, etc… It was really nice seeing the driveway when we turned in.
The bears were neat. They do all sorts of things to get you to throw them some apples (which you have to buy at a price of $1 per tray). I’m glad the camera took good zoomed in pics, because there is no way in Hell I’m getting *that* close to a bear. I can’t decide about the 4th bear picture down. I can see him doing an excellent Mr. Burns impersonation- “Excellent.” or maybe the pig from the oldddd Merrie Melody cartoon that said, “I wish my brother George was here.”.
The snakes had me nervous. Some of the cages were empty and I got to worrying maybe they’d escaped. I spent my time in the center of the room, looking overhead a lot.
The headache and backache have both disappeared, although the ankle is still a touch tender. Looks like I’m going to have to grit my teeth and let them re-break it where it will heal right after all. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with it hurting every time I want to get out and enjoy a hike.

So glad you’re back safe and sound and that fun was had by all, as a bonus, I’m sure your animals are tickled to be home too!
