Thoughtless, Crude or Wrapped up In Yourself?

You know, the thoughtlessness of folks today blows my mind.

I have a friend who has recently lost weight.  She was really surprised and very happy when she went and bought clothes and was SEVERAL sizes smaller than the last time she bought them.

I’m proud for her.  I’m excited for her.  I think it is fantastic.

Then someone else we both know comes along and says, “Don’t you just love vanity sizing?”.

Pardon me?  What in the hell?  Did we miss the social graces class?

More importantly, why did you say this?  Does it make you feel better about yourself to dismiss someone else’s acheivements as nothing more than a manufacturer’s gimmick?

You need to stop and think- how do you react when someone else shares their good news with you?  Do you always have to top it?  Does your’s always have to be better?  Are your circumstances always superior?

Stop.

Think.

Then comment.

You lose friends when you don’t.

  1. I was wondering about the vanity sizing coming up in your comments (I stopped there first)….who could say such an insensitive and utterly untrue thing?! Especially to such a fantastic person?! Tell me and I will send out my personal ninja squad posthaste……! Completely despicable.

    Sav, thanks, that is kind!

I find that it is hard enough to believe that I fit in those sizes now. I have “Fat Brain” so I assume it isn’t me that is smaller. I know that every 10 pounds is supposed to equal a dress size, so I am right on target, but somehow that doesn’t translate well when it is me! I think I just didn’t need to have any help with that! I do believe it was thoughtlessness, but I really didn’t need to hear that.

  3. I’m with you – I can’t believe some of the things that come out of people’s mouths. And why? Emily Post, or was it Miss Manners? One of them said that when people make inane, rude, or crude remarks, or ask personal questions, one should respond with “Why would you ask?” or “What possible reason could you have for saying that?” Of course, who can think when they are on the end of one of these remarks? I just stand with my mouth hanging open.
